My name is Robert Bannerman, and I am from Great Britain.
I was born in 1971 in a small English town. My parents came to Britain from the Caribbean region—my father worked in a factory, and my mother as a hospital cleaner.
My family didn't have much money, and traveling wasn't part of our lifestyle. I was an average student at school with no particular ambitions. Once, my grandfather gave me an old world map—it hung in my room for a long time, and from time to time I would look at it without seriously imagining that I would ever go anywhere.
After school, I changed several jobs—in a warehouse, a store, and then a few years in an office doing administrative work. Once, I tried to save money for a trip abroad—the tour operator company went bankrupt, and the money was not refunded.
After that, I simply put the idea of traveling on hold for a few years and lived as before. The map on the wall remained just a decoration—I no longer allowed myself to think about it seriously.
