Your first trip to Amsterdam from the UK can be very easy if you prepare a few things in advance. Here’s my quick checklist:
Eurostar instead of flying A direct Eurostar train from London St Pancras takes you straight to Amsterdam Centraal, so you don’t need to travel from Schiphol Airport to the city centre. Just remember to allow enough time for passport and security checks.

Check your passport For travel to the Netherlands, your UK passport must meet the Schengen entry requirements: it should have been issued less than 10 years before your arrival and remain valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from the Schengen area.

Don’t forget an adapter The Netherlands uses European-style power sockets, so you’ll need an adapter if you’re bringing UK plugs.
Be careful around bicycles Cycling is a huge part of Amsterdam’s culture. If you’re walking, always pay attention to cycle lanes. And if you plan to rent a bike, check the rental rules and what your travel insurance actually covers.
Have a backup payment method Card payments are widely used in Amsterdam, but it’s still a good idea to check which payment methods a particular shop or restaurant accepts.

And my main tip as a travel expert: don’t try to see all of Amsterdam in one day. Leave some time to walk along the canals, explore the smaller streets and simply enjoy the atmosphere of the city.
